I’ve been taking a wheel throwing class and discovered that a cylinder can be real wonky and still turn into a very serviceable cup! Impressing designs after throwing definitely distorts the shape, but sometimes in a way that fits the hand more comfortably. And it wasn’t a perfect cylinder to begin with.

The nice thing about making a chalice is that it can be wonky and, by the time you put decorations on it, no one notices. And no one cares if its heavy because then they feel free to bang it on the table and call for more mead.
