Attended the South London Film Festival for the first time to watch some amazing shorts followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. Held at the Ritzy. A real variety of films were shown that covered all manner of topics. From domestic violence, homophobia and molestationto grief, masculinity, capitalism and addiction. A beautiful day out in Brighton by the pier. Popped by the beach house for a picante & went on a few rides and dined by the lanes at Al Duomo (fettucini el salmon). Saw the gorgeous pavilion, also had a cider at the North Lain brew house which had a shuffleboard then walked to the station. Great day out. Supposed to be on a book ban but my book club gave me a free ticket to see Dean Atta’s Q&A with Keith Jarrett in Waterstones Islington and had a great time. Rosa’s Thai in Warren Street is such a pleasant budget friendly restaurant option. I had a delicious stir fry with pork belly and my friend had the signature Rosa’s Thai chicken friend rice. We shared a veggie platter too which had some yummy prawn crackers, sweetcorn fritters, spring roll and summer roll with some salad leaves. Had a great time at Notting Hill Carnival as always ❤️ Best way to spend bank holiday! A brilliant celebration of Caribbean culture. Rooted in anti racist activism. I was truly truly exhilarated to see Lynette Yiadom-Boakye’s 2026 works at the end of the ‘Project A Black Planet’ Barbican exhibition. I wasn’t expecting it so it was a lovely surprise. So many gorgeous works upstairs and downstairs but this last part really topped off the whole experience. Downstairs of the exhibition was a lot more figurative. The paintings focused more on historical contention between Africans and Europeans. There there was an entire section dedicated to funerary traditions. Ornate upright coffins. A mural for a murder victim. Stunning paintings by Iba N’diaye of women mourning - crying and screaming. Visited the ‘Project a Black Planet’ exhibition at the Barbican art gallery which features a series of works from a range of artists: from sculpture and literature and painting to music and audiovisual and fabric. I was reminded how much I love Claudette Johnson’s works with this exhibition. There were so many narratives on display here. Anti and decolonial. Pan Africanist and diasporan. One dimensional paintings and multidimensional works brimming with physicality. This was just the upstairs. D
