Update: IT’S ALIVE!
I re-did some of the caps, did a thorough inspection, and found a broken trace where there had been some heavy corrosion. It was a tiny gap by the leg of one of the chips, so I bridged it with some solder, and it works!

Tried to recap this Macintosh Color Classic logic board. The seller sold it as working, and claims it booted when he last tried in January. It never worked once for me, and it’s easy to see why: corrosion and leaky caps everywhere.
It’s a good thing the battery didn’t leak, though, since that was left in when I got it, too, probably since the 90’s.

It works…! Sort of! It started to load extensions, then went into a weird crashed state. When I powered off, it refused to chime the next time.
I know it’s my capacitor work, because the replacement Color Classic II board I still boots fine. Oh well… I’ll try again in a little bit.

Capacitor detritus, and the pads all cleaned up. I feel like I’m coated in that gross fishy burning electrolyte smell, and no amount of showering will wash it off… ugh.

My crappy attempt at soldering on some replacement tantalums. Not my best work, but I felt it was good enough for a test.

Hey, hey, hey! We've got our first ever rollback to a production deployment because this change wreaked absolute havoc, and support requests exploded because users were incredibly confused!

Can I please just work on quality code slowly? Like… give the client estimates that make sense for building, testing, and troubleshooting software that doesn’t have slop oozing out of all the cracks?

I just nearly broke down crying. Work sucks so much right now… all my coworkers are using AI tools, and pushing to do things faster and faster. It’s “good enough” most of the time, but when it’s not I’m stuck cleaning up the awful code lef…
@mos_8502 Honestly, while I’m disappointed, it’s not enough to warrant an unfollow yet.
I refuse to use LLMs for rote code or obscure chips even if they are good at it, because:
1. They were trained on others’ work without permission.

Theory: gluten-free bread makes better grilled cheese.
Reasoning: the lack of gluten means the bread retains less moisture, and therefore it becomes crispier o…
I want to post more here, but honestly, I don't feel like I have or have done anything that's post-worthy lately. Mostly just hanging in there, getting work done, and trying to come up with ideas on things to do or build that might be post…
