🔥 Top post Headed back to pick up parts I've missed. Starting with 7 (I was away). Part 1 nice and simple double tail call breadth first. Initially did part 2, then deduped the beams! But nowhere near completing for part 2. Quick rewrite for depth first with memoization and 13ms which is f… ★ 6
Note I don't need the routes, just the counts. And can cache (word, count). Made fft -> dac quick. But too many routes from svr to out without reaching fft. So needed a "reach out directly" cache. Then needed to disable that cache when I w… Part 1 was a really easy (and natural in F#) recursion creating a sequence of paths from you to out. Part 2 totally blew up in time... after looking for some inspiration it is finally solved. Can get count of routes svr -> fft, then for ff… Multiple errors rushing things with part 1. Took more care with part 2 and worked first time. Made a mountain out of part 1, but ended up with part 2 being a simple adaption of the code. Now back to the last two days skipped as I was away.... #adventOfCode #fsharp ★ 5 Ended up being really quite quick, 34ms in a debug build without any optimisation attempts (there is still too much array <-> list going on so room for improvement). #AdventOfCode #fsharp ★ 1 Too much RL today 😞 In part 1 thankfully looked at the "real" input, and realised building a set from the ranges was not going to work. Then in part 2 spent too much time working with `range seq` before using `range list`. A little tail r… ★ 4 An easier day, except string array is not mutable, so a quick change to char[,] (only three expressions needed changing) to allow update in place. (Could create a new string array with exceptions, but that is going to be 1. more code, and … ★ 3 Part 1 was nice and easy, but started expanding (recursively) into part 2 but that wasn't going to complete any time soon (maybe not this decade) as I realised it was O(n^12) 😞 . A little thinking, and back to O(n^2), and no significant o… ★ 3 Used regex with back reference for part 1. And on second go remembered to match the whole string. Part 2 thus became almost trivial addition for two or more repetitions... #adventOfCode #fsharp ★ 5 A second time around after a few hours gap (RL) in Go and a better approach to part 2. Overall my Go is pretty messy, but that's learning for you... #adventOfCode #GoLang ★ 1 Advent of code 2025 day 1 done... Part 1 done with modulo w/out problem (once adjusted for .NET doing modulo of negative is negative). Part 2 had too many edge cases so one step at a time solve it. More than quick enough (44ms) without any… ★ 5
