This had my questioning my sanity. I'm restoring my Amiga 1000, a beautiful beige beast from the '80s. After changing the capacitors and replacing a CIA chip and the floppy drive, everything was fine and dandy when the computer was disassembeled on my workbench. When I rebuilt it, it wouldn't read disks, kickstart wouldn't load and I couldn't get anywhere. Taking it apart, with the seperate compo

THAT was satisfying. I've been printing the front for a sidecar-type enclosure for my ACA500+ Amiga accellerator for use with my A1000...at an angle, on supports, as you do to make it look nice. I grab hold of it and pull, and the business end of the print just snaps off. Y'know, sometimes it's the little things in life #amiga #a1k #3dprinting #retrocomputing #nerdery

Restoring my Amiga 1000 keyboard, part 2: I've desoldered all the keyswitches and treated the rust on the top plate, sanded it and given it a few dustings of proper etching primer. It's looking better, but my borderline OCD says it needs more work. So I guess I'll sand and prime it, rinse and repeat, 'till my soul is at ease. I'll paint it black in the end, just like Stones said. The case is most

Only a few keys work on my Amiga 1000 keyboard, it turns out. The top plate is also a bit rusty, and everything is covered in 40 years worth of grime. After a bit of carefully applied rust remover it looks like this. Contact cleaner doesn't help the keyswitches much. Guess I have to tear it all the way down and open the switches. This'll take some time! No wonder why this machine was expensive ba

A bit of rework on an old project today, decided to swap out the old RF modulator (the metal can) on my KU-14194HB Commodore 64 mainboard remake. Replaced it with one of TheRetroChannels designs, with far better video, S-video out and an a…
This is a nice one for friday night, may the first - Yousuke Yukimatsu's DJ set from the chilean Lollapaloosa a few weeks past. A bit of Jane's Addiction, Prodigy, Major Lazer, Chem bros., Skrillex and so forth. Headphone party ahoy https:…
...now, I've been listening to the album on headphones while reading J. G. Ballard's The Crystal World, scfi from the '60s, and the two things are now fused in my mind for all time. #jgballard #scifi #tomora
Bugger me. The Chemical Brothers was a massive part of the 90s for me...and the last few years I've really been warming to Auroras stuff. Saw her live last summer. Awesome. Tom Rowlands and Aurora cooperating is right on the mark, as far a…

The keyboard for the Amiga 1000 is also all done - opened every one of the keyboard switches and treated the corrosion on the contacts inside with vinegar. A few were ok, but most of them were quite bad. Soaking in vinegar for a few hours …
Excellent, thank you! Didn't notice the different screw, I'll keep an eye out for that. Fingers crossed for the switches, hope the replacements I ordered work fine. Then I'll have a bit more to go on.

It works, but the disk drive and keyboard have issues. A deep clean is much needed! It's got very little yellowing, and doesn't really seem to have seen a lot of use. Wow.
