Philadelphia has been fun. Toured old naval vessels, saw the oldest residential street in America and the original congress and senate chambers. ★ 1 After meeting colleagues in New York, I’m in Philadelphia for the weekend. Today’s highlights include a bike-ride along the river, eating my first Philly Cheesesteak and seeing the Liberty Bell. ★ 1 The ISS just passed over Long Eaton. January 2026: we spent a week in Tenerife, stayed in a tiny seaside town, saw the Milky Way, explored a couple of cities. Mostly lots and lots of walking up and down mountains. We took a short trip to Istanbul. It’s my second time in the city, and the architecture and history still astonished me. We all had a great time. ★ 1 Day 3: Rode the Metro out to the Udvar-Hazy air and space museum. Then took a walk from the National Cathedral down embassy row. Day 2 in DC: I spent the morning in the Postal Museum and the afternoon in the Air and Space museum, then I cycled to Georgetown for dinner and watched the sun set while cycling back down the Mall. Day 1 in Washington DC: toured the Library of Congress and the Capitol, then walked down the Mall to see the Washington monument and the memorials for Lincoln, FDR and Jefferson. Lots of steps: feet sore. A short stop in New York on my way to DC. Walking around Manhattan is astounding. There’s a wonderful energy to the city; fabulous architecture, people everywhere and (if you follow the recommendation of a local) great pizza. Day 13 was mountain biking; but I fell off and hurt my leg — only managed one of two planned routes. Day 14, I hobbled round Saqsaywaman with its monolithic stonework followed by a guided tour of Qorikancha where the Spanish built a churc… Day 12: we started at plaza Tupac Amaru, where I had a meaty, rooty stew for breakfast, then we took a bus out to Tipon with its square terraces and running irrigation system. In the evening; a final round of souvenir shopping at the Satu…
