🔥 Top post Happy to have seen this particular artwork in Munich's amazing Lenbachhaus, on the way home from #useR2024 -- so very apt! ★ 19
And here's a happy coincidence: just yesterday my new script "pdftoast.py" got a public repo. (It's my first time with Python!) pdftoast.py is a bit more niche than pdfjam perhaps, but also they do go well together :) It's "a Python scri… The wonders of open source :) Years ago I wrote a shell script "pdfjam", for manipulating PDF documents (using pdflatex and its "pdfpages" package). So happy to see today that pdfjam has new life: version 4.00 is a major new release -- th… ★ 7 I hope I got my sums right! (back of an envelope, literally) To clarify "very rare". Nobody alive today has seen two of those. The last time it was possible was if someone born in 1728 lived to be 121. (did anyone?) After this year's 9-year-olds, the next people to see a square birthday in a squa… ★ 2 Anyone reaching age 9 this year will have a square birthday in a square year. If they live to 100 they will get two of those, which is very rare. ★ 12 The campus trees at University of Warwick are spectacular this year. ★ 8 I am strangely happy with that plot! The more I look at it, the more I see. Here are just a couple of obvious things that emerge: - the triangle for the "traditional" 3 parties in England (Con, Lab, LD) does not include most constituencie… ★ 2 The problem with that: in July 2024 a 4th party (Reform UK) got more votes than LD in England. So a 3-party graph does not tell the story. We need a tetrahedron not a triangle, to display shares of the 4-party vote (Con,Lab,LD,RUK). On 2-D… ★ 10 About something I drew in #rstats --- a display for 4-part compositional data. And some data of interest to me: voting at the 2024 UK General Election. Background: the ternary graph below is a fairly standard way to present a 3-part compo… ★ 7 This little "pink palace" at Ca' Foscari University (Venice) is home to a really excellent group of researchers in #statistics. A wonderful place to visit. ★ 2 Long-time #emacs user here. Lately I have been persuaded to use #Overleaf (a LaTeX document editor and processor online) for some projects, because it's used by some of my collaborators. But today I wasted a mass of time because Overleaf … ★ 3
