Here is an update on my microwebserver project: I made a prototype of the casing. It's 3D printed for now, but I'm thinking to go for a milled wood casing in the future. I've also managed to simplify the power system. Every mAh is desperately needed. I'm also thinking that it might develop into a good example for #permacomputing as it will tick some boxes about longevity and minimalism. I'm asking

I‘m currently working on building an ultra low power webserver with a ESP32 S2 microcontroller and sustainable super capacitors as energy storage for the solar cell. This will be hosting my website and won‘t have any parts that go bad anytime soon. I plan it as minimal and as long lasting as possible. Still some work to do on the power side but the webserver is already working (no https yet though

Two things can be true at once:
1. You can value digital minimalism and the principles of permacomputing.
2. You can recognize AI as one of the biggest inventions of human history and be excited by it.
The world is complex. Our positions can be, too.

There is so much AI-hate here that is beyond arguments and just straight polemic rage. I don't even see discussion, only expression of emotion.
This used to be smarter place, wasn't it?
What a great article. The arguments against AI made in 2024 are mostly lost in 2026. And it's difficult to make a case against it's usefulness now.

I'm annoyed by people saying proudly that they'll never use AI and everythings bad etc etc.
It's mostly B/W and not helping.
I'd rather see people be curious to get technology to be open, useful and shared for everybody.

It's annoying how people either think AI is gonna destroy the world or act like it's gonna solve literally everything. Get real.
@nonnullish maybe interesting for you - had a similar idea a few years ago but didnt succeed :)
The trending topics of the shouting voices of the masses sometimes make it difficult to discover and engage in ones niche interests - we may even forget about them. Clive Thompson wrote a nice piece about the importance of all our weird ob…
